One of the most daunting parts of life for someone like me is finding the right words to say when certain moments arise. It is easy for me to conjure up a plethora of phrases or ideas that I would be tempted to spew out if given the opportunity to do so; yet when the moment arises when I could actually use those ideas, I usually drop the ball—at least it feels like I do, anyhow.
Words are so important to us. They have the ability to build and encourage, but they also have the ability to destroy and discourage. In one breath each of us has the ability to make or break someone’s day—and often times our own.
As a love of old fiction, thinking about how our words shape our world reminds me of how witches, warlocks, and even wizards would use their words against unknowing opponents. In the stories, it always seemed like they had a pretty unfair advantage—given the whole magic thing, you know. But what will always strike me is how those same people that used their words to cast spells could have easily been brought down my any number of words by anyone else. It wasn’t a matter of a magic twig that they held in their hand: the real power was in their words.
And while we can’t change everything with our words, we can change a lot. We can change our perspective on life. We can change how we view ourselves. We can change how we interact with others. The truth is that we can do a lot with just a few words.
The power in your words doesn’t always come from them being the right words to say. The power in your words is always a power than comes straight from your soul. Even the wrong word can change the world if the thing that is powering it is true and just: that ‘thing’ is the Spirit of God.
Don’t try to say the right thing. Just be there to talk to people.
I absolutely love this and it is so true. Will Runyon you make this aunt so proud.
I love and appreciate you Will Runyon!
